"It could be said that Fiona's one day spoon carving course in January was a 'back to basics' or an 'unplugged' day. Some of us used a machine in the initial shaping stage but for the most part it was just hand tools and the wood. The comfortable, calm and creative 'Heartwood' atmosphere helped all of us shape a unique spoon of functional beauty. Demonstrations and instructions were clear and a helping hand or advice was always close by. The day was both energising and refreshing. Thanks Carol and Stuart". Barbara.
“It’s no surprise that Fi Glover is generous with her knowledge and passionate about her craft as that’s the norm when it comes to tuition in the Heartwood Creative Workshop. In one day I learned so much about wood types and carving techniques and all whilst enjoying the hands on experience of carving my own special spoon. A great day out and I gained a lifelong skill. Purchasing my starter kit meant I’m working on my next spoon at home. I recommend this class to beginners or those wishing to expand their woodworking skills.” Heidi
"The spoon carving class at Heartwood was an amazing experience. Stuart and Carol were really welcoming and the workshop is a woodworker’s dream. Fiona Glover is a fantastic teacher, so encouraging and enthusiastic to share her wealth of knowledge. There’s a great sense of accomplishment to come away with a finished product and the starter pack, with tools and spoon blanks, is perfect to get carving at home". Bernadette.
"Fiona does a phenomenal job of leaving her students with life-long hand carving skills after her one-day spoon carving course. Throughout the course she provided clear and easy to follow instructions and useful feedback on design and technique. The team at Heartwood provided a selection of beautiful wood to choose from and it was extremely rewarding for us to turn those blocks of timber into something practical and lovely! This course is an excellent experience and I would strongly recommend it to anyone looking to learn about working with hand tools or just looking to do something creative." Jessy
